About GEAR

Special education services are available for students in kindergarten through 12th grade who are struggling with social-emotional or behavioral regulation in the general education environment. Placement is decided by the IEP team, with the goal of returning the student to a traditional school setting to learn academically and socially alongside their general education peers. The process and length of time at GEAR varies for each student.

Academics include a mix of online and direct instruction guided by a certified teacher, social worker, school psychologist and behavior specialists. GEAR is not a therapeutic setting. Students have opportunities to work one-on-one and in small groups. Staff use a combination of applied behavior analysis and trauma-informed care as the behavior protocol.
